Holt’s prestigious and historic Woodthorpe Hotel re‐opens to the public!

MANCHESTER – If you are looking for an exciting new food pub, then visit the Woodthorpe on the Bury Old Road, next to Heaton Park, as this is no re‐opening after an extensive refurbishment. The pub, which is owned by Manchester brewer Joseph Holt, is full of history, charm and personality; and the recent refurbishment only complements the building’s already enchanting character.

Holt’s popular flagship pub The Woodthorpe Hotel in Prestwich re‐opens its doors this week following an extensive refurbishment. Dating back to 1861, The Woodthorpe was bought by Joseph Holt’s son; Sir Edward, in 1890 and was originally Edward Holt’s family home. It subsequently became a pub and hotel in 1955. Since, the pub has provided family friendly and community style atmosphere and has become extremely popular throughout Greater Manchester.

Work began on the building in February 2012 with the aim to update pre‐existing fixtures and creating a new Carvery and Function area. Whilst careful attention has been given to provide a tasteful restoration, which is in keeping with the character and rural appeal of the building, the refurbishment has created a contemporary look and modern feel. A new menu has also been introduced throughout, which boasts a vast range of speciality dishes, along with a weekend Carvery offering. A large sweet cabinet has also been installed, which is host to a delicious range of homemade gateaux, desserts and cakes, which diners can take away via Joey’s Cake Away service.

Visitors can choose to dine in the cosy and traditional bar area, or the luxurious Carvery and Function Room, which is available to hire for any occasion. In addition to the seasonal menus, there is a full range of traditional Joseph Holt real ales, including the infamous Gold Medal winning Crystal lager – which no good pub would be complete without – together with carefully selected wines from around the world. The opening also comes at an ideal time for the summer weather, as it also has a superb outdoor heated and covered terrace with beer garden. Additionally, the Woodthorpe was one of the first to receive The Cloud wifi service, offering guests free wifi when visiting the pub.

Richard Kershaw, Chief Executive of the brewery and great‐great-grandson of Joseph Holt – who founded the brewery in 1849 – said: “This is a fantastic venue and we are very pleased with the result of its recent
refurbishment. The Woodthorpe ticks all the right boxes for a local pub – great beer, great food and fine wine, in a lovely setting. Our aim has always been to provide the perfect pub, whether our guests are
popping in for a quick pint or enjoying a homecooked meal with all the trimmings – and The Woodthorpe certainly more than covers these areas.”
The Woodthorpe Hotel’s doors are now fully open to welcome guests to its picturesque grounds, the finest dining experience in the area and to enjoy a fantastic range of cask and keg ales.
