Warehouse Operative

Where: Joseph Holt Brewery, Manchester, M3 1JD

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Warehouse Operative to join our expanding Brewery team.

This new role offers a great deal of variety, and no two days will be the same. You’ll work across different areas of the Brewery and Warehouse, supporting day-to-day operations such as loading drays, assisting drivers, picking and counting stock, or driving the van to deliver products. You may also be involved in packaging beer and preparing it for distribution, ensuring products are ready for delivery to pubs and customers.

As our geography and range continue to grow, this key role has been created to support the increasing demands of the business. We’re looking for someone who can be flexible, proactive, and hands-on across all aspects of warehouse and delivery operations.

Key responsibilities:

Warehouse Operations

  • Pick, fulfil and stage orders for the following day’s deliveries.
  • Maintain accurate stock rotation of Joseph Holt and third-party products.
  • Support stock controllers with counts of full and empty containers and general warehouse stock.
  • Keep the warehouse organised and operate in line with First In, First Out (FIFO) principles.

Distribution & Delivery Support

  • Deliver casks, kegs, packaged beer, wines, and spirits to pubs, bars, and Free Trade accounts.
  • Load and Offload deliveries safely – sometimes independently and sometimes with a second person.
  • Stillage beer in cellars where required.
  • Drive the company van to deliver products to customers across the Northwest and beyond.
  • Collect and return empty containers to the Brewery.
  • Support the transport department as needed with additional delivery or collection duties.

Stock Management & Accuracy

  • Count and record all stock movements accurately, including returns and empties.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed in full and on time.
  • Report any stock discrepancies, damage, or shortages promptly.

Packaging & Production Support

  • Assist with packaging beer into casks and kegs to meet daily production targets.
  • Prepare and label packaged products for home delivery accurately for dispatch
  • Ensure high standards of quality control and cleanliness are maintained within the packaging area.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all Company Health, Safety and Security standards at all times.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the warehouse and yard areas.
  • Operate all equipment safely and responsibly in line with training and company policy.

About you:

Essential

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Good level of physical fitness – this is an active, manual role.
  • Reliable, flexible, and able to manage your own workload.
  • Strong communication skills to engage effectively with our pubs, customers, and colleagues.
  • Awareness of Health & Safety standards and willingness to follow procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail with an organised and methodical approach.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a wider team.
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Happy to work occasional weekends or varied shifts (all daytime).

Desirable

  • Class 2 (Category C) licence, or willingness to work towards gaining this while with us.
  • FLT Qualification or willingness to gain one.
  • In-date CPC qualification.
  • Experience within a warehouse, distribution, or brewery environment.
  • Confidence in basic problem-solving and multitasking in a fast-paced setting.

Since 1849 we have been brewing a wide range of award-winning beers in our Manchester brewery, which have won 7 Gold Medals at the International Brewing Awards at the last 7 International Brewing Awards. Alongside this, we have an ever-expanding Free Trade and sell beer to multiple types of accounts across the country.
