‘QUID IN!’ MANCHESTER BREWERY JOSEPH HOLT ROLLS OUT £1 KIDS’ MEALS FOR SUMMER HOLIDAYS

Joseph Holt is slashing the price of children’s meals to just £1 this summer – as part of a major initiative to support families during the school holidays – reducing the price of its children’s menu by more than 60%.

At the same time, Joseph Holt has launched a fast-paced summer campaign across its pubs to raise £20,000 over the school holidays for children’s charity Meals & More.

Funds raised will support children in the North West affected by “holiday hunger” – the lack of access to a nutritious meal when free school meals are not available during school holidays.

The brewery’s £1 meal scheme is being launched to coincide with the Government’s temporary 5% VAT rate on children’s meals in pubs and restaurants, which runs from 25 June to 1 September. The £1 kids’ meal offer will run for the same period.

The brewery was founded by weaver’s son Joseph Holt in 1849 and has remained in the same family ever since. According to Jane Kershaw, director and sixth-generation member of the Joseph Holt family, it is this enduring sense of family and community that underpins both the brewery`s charity fundraising for Meals and More and its £1 meal deal for children.

She said: “Community is at the heart of everything we do. We are a family business, which is why our pubs are more than just places to eat or drink. They are part of the fabric of the local areas where they are located.

“The idea of children being hungry over the holidays is desperately sad, which is why all our pubs are mobilising to raise money for Meals and More, who do such sterling work for children’s physical and social wellbeing – providing free, nutritious meals and lively activities during the holidays for youngsters who might otherwise miss out on regular support outside term time.

“Equally, in launching this £1 meal deal for kids, we are passing on the savings and more that we are making with the cut in VAT because we want families to benefit. We know school holidays are a costly time for customers, but on the other hand many will want to do lovely things with their children such as eating out together. So enjoying a meal for £1 is one way of achieving this.”

The £1 kids’ meal deal can also be upgraded for an additional £1.95 to include a drink and an ice lolly, with the offer – a 60% cut on the usual £5.45 price of a children’s meal.

Kerri Frost, corporate partnerships manager at Meals & More added that with more than 2.7 million children across the UK experiencing food insecurity, and child poverty rates among the highest in the North West, the partnership with Joseph Holt has never been more important.

She said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as Joseph Holt’s charity partner for their Summer Campaign. Their long-standing commitment to supporting local communities aligns perfectly with our mission of feeding young futures by ensuring children have access to food, safe spaces, and enriching activities throughout the school holidays.

“Every raffle ticket sold, every bingo game played and every pound raised across Joseph Holt’s network of pubs will help create brighter holidays for children and families across Greater Manchester and the wider North West. We are incredibly grateful for their support and enthusiasm and look forward to seeing communities come together to make a real difference this summer.”
