The Volunteer is a Grade II listed building rebuilt in 1897 to commemorate the Sale and Ashton volunteers who gathered in 1803 to fight the possible Napoleonic invaders. Its transformational 2026 refurbishment combines traditional heritage, including an original oak-panelled upstairs room, with a friendly, comfortable layout featuring plenty of seating areas and a welcoming atmosphere.

Behind the bar, you will find a solid range of quality drinks to enjoy alongside daily live sport on Sky and TNT Sports. The pub is a popular choice for sports fans, showing everything from football and rugby league/union to cricket across its screens.
