From the 4th July 2020 our pub will be opening its doors once more! Please note the new opening times and have a read of our Safely Socialising guidelines before you visit. There will be no live entertainment in our pub for the time being. Thanks for your support – we can’t wait to welcome you in for a drink very soon!
The Volunteer is a Grade II listed building rebuilt in 1897 to commemorate the Sale and Ashton volunteers who gathered in 1803 to fight the possible Napoleonic invaders. The pub is a hub for drinkers and sports fans looking for a quality pint and weekly entertainment. Raised areas and fixed seating extending into the open space break up the pub to make the interior warm and welcoming. Three darts teams are based here, which makes for some lively evenings, while there’s a weekly quiz night on a Thursday.
The popular pub boasts live daily sports entertainment on Sky and BT Sports, ensuring you don’t miss any of the great games in football, rugby, cricket and lots more. You can enjoy an array of monthly entertainment featuring live singers, bands and musicians as well as darts and pool.
The oak-paneled, former billiard room upstairs is perfect for private events, from birthdays and christenings to funerals and family gatherings. The Volunteer is a truly traditional pub with a nostalgic nod to its grade II listed heritage
