POPUAR RADCLIFFE PUB GOES GREEN – LITERALLY
A popular Manchester pub has quite literally gone green.
As part of a £350,000 makeover, the Hare & Hounds in Radcliffe has been painted a rich ‘mallard’ green – a striking departure from its former red-brick façade. And keeping with the colour scheme, new glazed doors have been installed so that customers can enjoy view of the pub’s bowling green and the rolling Lancashire hills beyond.
One of 127 pubs owned by the Joseph Holt brewery, the Hare and Hounds is the first one in the company’s estate to adopt such a distinctive shade.
Inside, the pub has also undergone a full facelift, including an extension of the bar area by a third. Among the new features is a touch of history: two original windows depicting a hare and a hound, discovered in the cellar during the renovation, have been restored and now take pride of place behind the bar.
Denis Madocks, estates executive for Joseph Holt, said that the overhaul of the pub – particularly its eye-catching new exterior – was another example of how the company both refreshes and yet respects its venues by blending tradition with innovation.
“We always want to ensure our pubs offer customers the best possible experience in terms of comfort, and the Hare & Hounds is no exception,” said Dennis. “While respecting the traditions associated with our pubs — reflected in the thoughtful furnishings and colours inside — we’re always looking for ways to make the most of our venues. We hope customers will really enjoy the new look at the Hare & Hounds.”
