POPULAR CHEADLE HULME PUB OPENS FOLLOWING £1 MILLION MAKEOVER
A well-loved Cheadle Hulme pub throws open its doors following a £1 million facelift.
Platform 5 reopens as The Station House as a result of a pioneering collaboration between the iconic Manchester-based brewery Joseph Holt and thriving family-run business Almond Family Pubs.
The revamped pub features a stunning new interior with a 1930s classic design evoking the glory days of rail travel – such as ornate decor, a brass and marble bar and plush leather booths. The exterior of the pub has also been rejuvenated including a 100-seat raised sun terrace and widened, entryways.
Matching the new look is a fresh menu. The Almonds’ four existing pubs will continue to offer their famous carvery, but The Station House will now dish up a different service: Sundays will feature an elevated plated traditional British roast, staying true to Almond Family Pubs’ standards of quality.
Along with the refurbishment, the venue has retained its much-loved Joseph Holt identity, showcasing the insignia of the historic brewery, which last year celebrated its 175th anniversary. Founded in 1849 by a weaver’s son, Joseph Holt is one of the country’s best-known family breweries, with 127 pubs across the North West. Some of the brewery’s award-winning beers and ales will continue to be served at the new Station House, alongside international lagers.
Almond Family Pubs, already operate four much-loved community-focused pubs in the Stockport area which include Spread Eagle, Puss in Boots, Fletchers Arms and Jolly Sailor.
The opening marks an exciting new chapter for both businesses, says Richard Kershaw, CEO of Joseph Holt and the fifth generation of his family to lead the company.
He added “The Almond family have a fine track record for running some very successful pubs. Taking over the tenancy of The Station House is an exciting way forward for the pub. Bringing together two family-run businesses with shared values and local roots in a new and dynamic chapter for this landmark pub and for our company as it continues to look for exciting opportunities now and in the future.”
Doug Almond, of Almond Family Pubs, added “We cannot wait to reopen the doors of The Station House on October 16th. We have a reputation in Stockport for serving quality food and drink, in beautifully furnished, traditional pubs, by the friendliest teams around, not to mention our strong ties with Cheadle Hulme, having previously run a popular pub in the area.
“Holts are well known for their traditional northern hospitality and excellent beer so when the opportunity arose for a potential partnership we were keen to pursue. Together we are breathing new life into this pub – which, following its refurbishment, is our biggest, grandest, most opulent design scheme yet. In addition, guests can expect our trademark AFP welcome, service and atmosphere while they enjoy a crafted drink or delicious dinner.”
