An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly organised, analytical, and commercially minded individual to join our team as Audit Manager on a permanent contract.

Overview

This is a key role within the business, responsible for leading and developing the internal audit function across the pub estate. You will oversee stock and cash audits, ensure strong procedural compliance, and play a critical role in loss prevention, risk management, and operational control.

Working closely with Operations, Finance, and senior management, you will provide assurance that company policies, financial controls, and regulatory standards are being consistently applied. You will also support pubs with guidance, training, and problem-solving, helping to drive accuracy, accountability, and profitability across the estate.

This role combines hands-on auditing with team leadership, reporting, and continuous improvement. It is well suited to someone who is detail-driven, confident in challenging processes, and able to balance operational demands with a strategic, risk-based approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and develop the audit team to deliver stock and cash audits across the managed estate.
  • Maintain a robust, risk-based cyclical audit programme to ensure timely, accurate stocktakes and reporting.
  • Ensure pubs comply with company procedures for cash control, banking, in-house stock management, and administrative processes.
  • Oversee internal audit programmes to ensure compliance with company policies, financial controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive loss prevention by identifying operational risks and working collaboratively with Operations and Finance to strengthen controls, reduce shrinkage, and improve profitability.
  • Prepare clear, relevant management reports following audits and stocktakes, highlighting risks, trends, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Support pubs with day-to-day audit-related queries, providing practical guidance and delivering training where required.
  • Monitor, investigate, and report on potential fraud or theft identified through audit findings and business information feeds.
  • Programme and maintain EPOS system content, including product creation, costs, pricing, layouts, and promotional activity.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of audit processes, controls, and reporting to support business growth and operational excellence.

The Successful Candidate:

  • A confident communicator, able to engage effectively with pub teams, operations management, and senior leadership.
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experienced in audit, stock control, cash handling, or finance-related roles, ideally within a hospitality or multi-site environment.
  • Commercially aware, with a strong understanding of loss prevention, risk management, and operational controls.
  • Analytical and methodical, able to interpret data, identify trends, and make clear, practical recommendations.
  • Comfortable leading and developing a team while also being hands-on when required.
  • Proactive, resilient, and confident in challenging non-compliance in a constructive and professional manner.
  • Experience with EPOS systems and audit software is desirable but not essential.

Joseph Holt is an independent, six-generation family-owned company, with 127 pubs across the Northwest, ranging from traditional community pubs, food led destination pubs and some with onsite letting rooms. Since 1849 we have been brewing a wide range of award-winning beers in our Manchester brewery, which have won 7 Gold Medals at the International Brewing Awards at the last 7 International Brewing Awards in the last 14 years alone. Alongside this, we have an ever-expanding Free Trade and sell beer to multiple types of accounts across the country. We are a friendly, family run Brewer and Pub Company that are passionate about what we do and the people who work for us. For over 100 years, we have fundraised for the Christie Hospital and also support different charity appeals throughout the community.
