From Serving Pints to Singing Sensation

Joseph Holt Annual Karaoke Competition

Joseph Holt’s Annual Karaoke Competition was another big success this year held at the Atherton Arms pub in late November, proudly sponsored by Coca-Cola and supporting the Joseph Holt Christie Charity Appeal.

The annual karaoke event was hosted by the Bosum Buddies; Mark and Stuart also known as Brenda and Bernadette who both entertained the crowd with their outstanding musical comic performances. We were delighted to have key representatives from Starlight Entertainment be our expert judging panel.

This year, Joseph Holt had its highest number of contenders with 28 entries from the estate all vying for the coveted £500 1st prize and glory. All the singers took to the stage one-after-another and wowed the audience with their song choice, showcasing some electrifying performances that had the room on their feet.

However, ten exceptional entries rose above the rest and sang in the second rounds after impressing the judges with their vocal talents. The final ten were whittled down to the top five in our most exciting and eagerly anticipated semi-final.

After a terrific vocal battle that would rival some TV talent shows, the judges had a difficult decision to make and after much deliberation, the winners were announced as:

1st Prize: Beth McRoy from Ashley Brook - £500

2nd Prize: Selina Scott from The Brooklyn - £300

3rd Prize:  Issac Flynne from Bolton Castle - £200

Operations Manager; Mark Norbury commented; “We are proud with another great year at Joseph Holt’s Annual Karaoke Competition, with much delight that it has been our highest number of entries in its 13th-year run. There were a lot of fantastic singers whom all represented their pubs superbly and a few spectacular surprises that came out of the competition. All of the contenders did a fantastic job but the winner chosen; Beth McRoy who stole the night with her powerful rendition of Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing was well deserved – congratulations. The Joseph Holt Annual Karaoke Competition is a great evening for all of our pubs as well as for the customers to come together to enjoy some light-hearted entertainment which helps boost the community spirit.”.
